Winning Discovery Day 2016 allowed us to chase our dreams

SEED Discovery Day is an annual pitch competition for early stage tech startups based in Denmark. The 10th of May 2017, ten finalists will pitch their business plan for a jury consisting of serial entrepreneur Jesper Buch, Managing Partner in SEED Capital Ulla Brockenhuus-Schack, CEO of Founders House Tine Thygesen and Vivino co-founder Theis Søndergaard. Denmark’s largest pitch competition for tech startups will take place at DTU Skylab in Lyngby. The prize is a 500,000 DKK investment to spend on measures related to developing your startup.

The event is a part of the SEED Capital Discovery Program for very early stage startups, and we are convinced that these investments contribute in the creation of the next generation of growth companies in Denmark.”

Last year’s winner of SEED Discovery Day 2016, Group Cam, share their experience with winning the competition and the following process of turning the investment into value adding activities for their startup.

Serial entrepreneur and CEO of Founders House, Tine Thygesen, will once again be hosting the pitch-training day on the 3rd of May 2017, a week before competition day. The 10 finalists are invited to this event with the purpose of boosting their pitching skills and thereby their chances of winning the discovery investment.

“The competition is also a networking event with the opportunity to meet and talk to investors and other founders for good advice. Unfortunately, we did not manage to network as much as we would have liked — as our eyes were only on the prize that day” Kasper continues.

One of the specific networking activities at SEED Discovery Day is Investors Corner. All participants of the competition as well as members of the audience get the opportunity to discuss their ideas with investors and sponsors of the event. This part of the event is especially valuable for founders of early stage startups.

“Winning the 500,000 DKK prize has enabled us to invest heavily in product development. GroupCam currently has approximately 2000 users and as our product is still our most important asset at this stage, we continue to remain focused on optimizing the product to ensure a better user experience. We also recently launched a new update and are now on the verge of initiating several user growth measures to achieve higher brand and product awareness. All of the measures has enabled us to focus our product towards the travelling segment and constantly optimize our system based on user feedback.
